Abstract
Background. The main aim of this project is to analyze and investigate BIM as one of the most
effective and functional risk management tools in projects. The research will help identify how
BIM can help a team manage and monitor their project effectively without experiencing any
inefficiencies. It will also investigate how BIM models a project to make it exactly as planned.
The research is important in determining whether BIM is only useful in the risk management
area of a project and if it can be integrated with other areas such as communication and planning.
Methodology. The methodology used for this research is the case study research approach,
which helps deliver an in-depth and multi-faced understanding of the use of BIM in risk
management. The methodology will be tested on two companies, one that used BIM and the
other does not use BIM in their project construction strategies.
Research findings. The research findings identified that BIM has proven to be useful in
construction projects by promoting coordination of activities to reduce risks and ensure all the
project objectives are met. The findings also showed that BIM promoted information
management in the project, ensuring the effective execution of all milestones. Therefore, the
company that used BIM showed more success than the one that did not.
Value of the research. This research aims to better understand BIM, not just as a risk
management tool but as a project enhancement tool. Therefore, this research will help provide
valuable information on specific areas BIM can work and how it supports many studies.
